Entertainers, for the most part, are outgoing and unafraid when it comes to putting on a show for others. But, there is just something about a camera that causes many fearless performers to feel the nervous fluttering of butterflies in their bellies. If your goal is to become more comfortable in front of the acting camera, whether for acting auditions or acting jobs, the following three tips can do wonders for conquering anxiety.

1. Learn your lines and prepare.

This is one of the most basic bits of advice for actors, but it is one of the least followed. Actors and actresses who hope to combat camera anxiety should practice their lines until they have them fully memorized. In addition, it is a great idea to visualize yourself doing well. This kind of positive thinking can truly transform your outlook and put you at ease.

2. Practice at home.

If the camera makes you very nervous, why not become more comfortable with it at home? Have a family member or friend film you with their phone or any handheld device, and practice until you feel natural in front of the camera.

3. Put your nerves to rest.

Before filming day make sure to wake up early enough to give yourself plenty of time to get ready. Enjoy a healthy breakfast and practice a few times before arriving early to set. Be sure to stay away from caffeine, which can increase your nervous feelings, and instead go for a more soothing drink like chamomile tea. Remember, every performer is not perfect at the first try. Sometimes additional takes are necessary. Be patient with yourself, and you will naturally feel much better.
